[It starts out audio, a young man's overly excited voice.]

Hey, this is like a phone, right? AH, it's working -- whoah, it's moving! It's really doing stuff! It's so cool! Wait, wait... It gets video, huh? Let me try...

[The video switches on after a moment -- and the user is as energetic in appearance as he is in sound. He throws his hands up in joyful triumph, jumping up and down a moment as if he's ready to burst with happiness.

The only thing off? He's kind of covered in mostly-dried blood. His face, his hair, and his abdomen look like he or someone near him must have lost enough blood to more than kill a man, but by his movements he seems just fine.]

COOOOOOL! SO COOL! God's really amazing after all! This must be a reward for putting on a good show, huh? A really awesome afterlife! So hey, if you guys got here by dying too, you should tell me how! There's probably a lot of different deaths in a place like this...

And, oh-- Mister, are you out there?

You... are entirely too blase about dying, buddy. This isn't the afterlife. I'll promise you that. I've seen the afterlife, and it isn't some half-dead gray city run by a bunch of spoiled, kidnapping brats.

...decor's better here than hell.

[The voice on the other end grunts. Samantha's still pissed at hell at being in Kaz's body. This guy's attitude, however, doesn't exactly make him aces in her book. She doesn't feel like volunteering info on how she's died either, not yet anyway.]

It's an afterlife, isn't it? If I died and came here, what else would it be?

Death's only the end if the afterlife doesn't spit you back up onto dry ground. Never bank on it being the end unless you hear angelic choruses or screaming masses with pitchforks.

That's a pretty tired notion of God and stuff, y'know. But hmmm if this is a second life, can we die again?

I agree. It's really tired. Too bad they hadn't updated the decor the last time I checked. You can die again here, yeah. You'll just come back. It's pretty twisted.

What, really?

[He is so interested in that. But he's clamping down on it -- it's too early to be obvious.]

Yeah, pretty much. You'll reappear in the castle after a few hours. Read somewhere it gets harder each time, but death isn't the end around here for any of us.

[it wasn't a surprising thing for a man covered in blood to be worried about, even if this situation was more than a little creepy.]

So it isn't permanent... Ah, that's really convenient!

If you say so, buddy. Personally I think it's one of the most horrific, sick and twisted things they do to people here. Coming back from the dead's not a good thing, however much you don't want to lose a loved one.

Why's it not a good thing? You can't die and then keep going, right?

Is it really that wonderful to come back from the dead? Sure, you keep going, but repeating the pain and the agony of death a second time's cruel if you ask me.

You really think so?

[She could have filled in any of a thousand details, but there was no reason to do that. The matter was simple. She had enough first hand familiarity with the topic of dying that she could fill in the blanks on whether or not she had reason to think it was cruelty to bring the dead back to life.

Admittedly, hers was also a deeply jaded perspective.]
