[Slightly disgruntled may have been Asuka's default state of being, but today, as she looked out over her unseen audience with her one good eye, she seemed to be even more irritable then usual. True, things had not been terrible as of late, she had finally found a niche in the military and had even mustered the strength of will to talk to a particular person for the first time in a great while.

But that did not stop her from being filled with an abject sense of worthlessness that had lay on her mind for some time now. She was a pilot by training and thus felt helpless trying to fight a war outside the cockpit of her beloved Eva. Something had to be done, even if just a small gesture to stop from wallowing in self-pity for another night.]

I'm Captain Asuka Langley Shikinami, formerly of the Euro Air Force, and I'll make this quick. My training back home was really only about how to be a pilot, so I really don't know anything about how to fight. So, I hate to do this, but I need someone to train me in at least the basics so I can defend myself.

Also, I also don't do well in groups, so it has to be one-on-one. Oh, and you'll have to work around my schedule to. If your interested just say so, we can talk about payment or compensation or whatever you want to call it later.

While I know many here have knowledge of fighting, demanding we all change our obligations to suit your own needs and not be willing to work with theirs may prove difficult in finding an instructor who is willing.

I would teach you, should you be willing to be understanding of a man with family here he will not see again elsewhere as well as the duties we all hold to the city and compromise on a time.

Fine, geez! I can concede that it might be hard to schedule something based just around my day. But I refuse to work in a group, I will not budge on that.

If we can agree on a time, then fine, I'm willing to work with you.

Hopefully some of the others can help you out... but in our off time, I can help you some. I just wasn't ever really formally trained, so my moves aren't exactly what you'd call refined. If you're going to be up front with the others, you should have a better teacher than me.

I'm better as a punching bag.

That is fine, it is easier to teach someone to wield a weapon that way anyway.

I have plenty of room in my day when curfew first lifts, and I could change when I take my midday meal a few days a week if that is easier.

I'm sure I'll be able to find someone to teach me. But if it comes down to it, I wouldn't mind you teaching me a few things.

I mean I've learned a lot from you already, just none of it has anything to do with fighting.

That works provided I can drag by butt out of bed by then, which shouldn't be to much of a problem.

What sort of weapon do you wish to learn then? We can help you find one suited to you in the arena I suspect, at least for practice with.

[Asuka thought for a moment. She was vaguely familiar with a variety of heavy weaponry that her Eva used. Axes, knives, that sort of thing. But she wasn't really sure about stuff on a smaller scale.

Except for lances...she could do without ever seeing one of those things again.]

Maybe a sword or something like that? I think that fits pretty well.

Swords are quite versatile in most situations and are a wise choice for most people, when would you like to begin?

As soon as possible, honestly. Mostly for the sake of my peace of mind.

[She chuckled softly.] I suppose I have taught you a few things, but I don't mind being the punching bag. It's good for practice either way. Besides, I could use the exercise.

Are you looking for hand to hand combat, or marksmanship?

Either would be fine, I just want to be able to contribute something to the military.

I'd be fine with that! Maybe once I get some training in with someone else I can show you what I've learned?

I did learn some in basic training. I was primarily a pilot, but everyone had to be prepared for being boarded.

I could knock you around a bit until you learned something.

Me to, but we normally deal with giant robots, not enemy troops. So there is little risk of being boarded or anything like that.

I'm someone that could teach how to fucking stay alive. But you rather get bloodied up and cut in two by pathetic giants go ahead.

I don't, it never really passed through my mind to get one.

Whatever, just don't count on me to save your ass then when it's time for the real thing.

Some guy said that he'd teach me how to use a sword. I really wouldn't mind learning, it'd be a nice talent to have and I think I'd look pretty cool with a blade in my hands.

There was also a girl with an eye-patch who said she'd beat me up... I told her to get the hell away from me. I don't need weirdos like that anywhere near me!

I prefer knives myself, smaller blades. Quicker, easier to get in close, between the ribs, but swords have their uses. And [She looked at the other replies before going red. Well, this was awkward. She had kind of been screwing that one before they agreed to go exclusive...]

Aheh... that's not an eyepatch. It's actually a flower, and she probably would just beat you up. You'd be better around her after training for a while.

A flower? That's more then a little strange.

[Says the girl with the glowing blue eye.]

I hope I never have to fight her. It would be a waste of my time when I've got more important things to do.

You're telling me. It kind of smells weird too. [Really intoxicating.] A little like... well, that isn't important. You really shouldn't need to. She doesn't really spar. She fights for real. There's a difference. The closest to sparring she'll do is practice weapons, or at least that was my impression anyway.

Well either way, I don't want to be anywhere near her ever. That's all I have to say about that.

[And that is that. Asuka was not all that fond of talking about people that pissed her off.]

I'm hoping this training will be good for my self-confidence though. The fact that there is not much I can do for people outside the cockpit of my Eva is still bothering me.

[Yay! And Sam was definitely not in the mood to talk about Zero much more. Reaaaally uncomfortable topic right now.]

With your regeneration, getting some combat training would make you damned useful in a fight. Have you grown at all in that?

My power? I've been messing with it whenever I've had a small cut or bruise I'd see if I could fix myself up. But I really haven't gotten any more beaten up then that lately so I've never tested it on a big scale.

Tomorrow morning then? It will not take long to find a sword suited to you I think.

What sort of training have you undergone? I admit I do not know much of what captains in Air Forces do, they are not something we have back home.

Really? Uh...I was taught how to operate a particular machine. Since we weren't fighting humans though, I was never taught self-defense or anything like that.

[It's rather hard for him to be surprised at this point, they don't even have electricity in his time yet let alone half of some of the other things he's had here. Ice cream was new and different.]

A great deal changes in a few hundred years, Capitano Shikinami apparently so does the enemy one fights. I will teach you how to defend yourself as well as be able to get out of a situation you cannot win on your own, it can be better to escape and run to fight another day than to take on more than you should.

Yeah, yours is a little trickier to actually practice without being downright masochistic about it, and I never knew anyone who did that. I kind of want to test, but I kind of ... don't.

Do you ever ask for those shrine gifts? Which ones they let you get would tell me if you have.

Well, if I get beat up a little when we practice together someday, I'm sure we'll be able to test it then. But otherwise... I'm not really into rough stuff.

[She kept it to scratches at most because of that... but that wasn't something she was going to just say on the network.] See if you can ask for one of those little protective shields or a weapon the next time you get a chance. If you can ask for one of those, you're still at the starting level. None of the higher levels can ask for them.

...or you could ask for level two, but it's only good for a day and you might as well get the protecting thing. Little more useful.

I guess I'll go and take a look before I go train someday soon. No harm in doing everything I can to make the most of the whole situation.

None at all. Honestly, there's days I wish I still had access the first tier stuff. It was actually pretty handy in a fight. [She was imagining the kind of protection someone who stayed at the first level could have put together if they'd gotten one of those pocket things every day.]

Still, there were good sides to what I got later.

[Asuka nodded. She felt a lot better about herself now that she had something of a plan lined up. It wasn't perfect, but little was.]
