Bene, I have this working. My appologies, I am not used to using such contraptions for communication. I also understand that this is a time of war so I shall attempt to be brief.

I am Giovanni, and while I have only been here a few days I have elected to assist those in charge of keeping track of supplies. I have some experience in maintaining accurate books as a banker so I felt it the best place to put my skills with such. If those of that group would kindly inform me of our meeting location I can begin immidiately in learning the specifics of our tasks. I sadly left my credentials back home however, sudden travel often leaves one a bit unprepared in such things.

I admit I have never visited a city where the future haunts those who come here as opposed to the past, Asgard is quite unique in that regard. It is however one of the most welcoming, and I look foreword to meeting you all in person should the occasion arise. If there is anything I may be able to assist with I shall gladly do so, we are after all in this together and it would be poor form to not help one another where we can.

The future haunting... That is one way of expressing what is common to this place.

[Hey, look! There's also strange, non-human creatures around here, or they figured out how to turn people's skin gray and give them horns. Either way, the face on the other end is definitely... unusual.]

[You look like you have some sort of condition there, sir. Have you tried leeches?]

I suspect that a great many things I have never seen are common here, the clothing choices alone are... not what I am familiar with.

[He kind of actually is a leech, sort of.]

You will grow accustomed to that, or not as the case may be. This place can be a harsh teacher from time to time.

Unique. Yes, why not, unique. [That sounds decidedly mocking.] Tell me, does being a banker enable you to make more out of little?

I am rather used to harsh instructors, adapting to a situation is not difficult. People are still people no matter what they wear or how they speak.

Given enough time, si provided there are those willing to devote time and effort in to laying the foundations. Call me a paranoid old man but knowing that nothing is being... misplaced during movements to outposts would be my first concern in such a large operation.

Then it is seeing what can be changed or kept in the process.

[Soon after Giovanni finishes speaking to his fellow Travelers, Altaïr returns to the top floor of the shop through the roof entrance. He spots Giovanni immediately and smiles, glad more for Ezio's sake than his own.]

I see Ezio found you. That is good.

There is a certain truth to this, but you will find that those who are not human have disparate cultures that may be explicitly distinct from others. Whatever similarities, I have found Alternian and human cultures to be irreconcilable at times.

I would think that some things are getting misplaced for a certainty. While it has not reached the point of famine, supplies have only grown shorter, and people do like to make sure for themselves they'll make it through.

Si he did, though I will admit to not knowing how truly good such a thing is.

[He looks a bit tired, and though there hasn't been much to do there's been plenty to wrap his head around.]

Best to nip such a thing in the bud, before we are too starved to hold swords to defend them. We do not want a famine on our hands.

Who are the suppliers, or is it all from the good will of the hearts of the city?

On the surface, perhaps but beneath that there are things that culture and distance is irrelevant towards. People seek happiness and freedom, they enjoy good food and good company and dislike being attacked. Being open and accepting of the differences even if they go against our own only destroys the ties between us that should be strengthened.

There used to be trade with Utgard, but the road has been completely blocked. Hence the shortage. Other than that, the goodwill of the gods and what people here grow for themselves. At least as far as I know. The city isn't exactly surrounded by farms.

[There's a shuffle as Giovanni gets paper and something to write with.]

I see, is there a way to open the road or make a new one or is it something purposeful being done to weaken us by our enemies? Have we other allies, cities who can be spoken with for trade agreements?

Well, as far as I know nobody's been able to remove the barrier in any way. We have Thiazi to thank for it, one of the enemy leaders. We've got some allies, but as I understand at least one of the cities was mostly burned down in a previous attack, so I don't know if they'll have much to spare.

You'll have more luck asking someone who's been here longer than I have.

Forgive me if this seems obvious, but has anyone tried going around or under it somehow? Destroying a thing is not always the only solution.

You know more than me at this point, and are the first to offer information on this matter beyond what we are given on arrival.

In a place like this, where time and distance seem to mean nothing? It is very good, to reunite with family.

[Aaaand wait for it—he lowers his hood and oh hey, it's that guy you met earlier, Giovanni. Huh.]

You are wrong in thinking that time means nothing here, there is more value to it. To have the years watching someone become what they will be stolen from you and only confronted with the end result makes the time you have spent with them all the more valuable because of what you are missing of it.

[He lets out a soft laugh at the reveal, shaking his head.]

I should have known, or at least suspected, once I arrived here.

There are several explicit differences in the biology of my species and humans that lead towards completely irreconcilable differences between our cultures. While there is commonality, human societal structures are not founded upon established cycles of pity and hatred, however occasionally prevalent they are.

True enough. [He nods.] In any case, it was not my intent to deceive, but I thought it best that Ezio explain matters to you. I am Altaïr.

There are those who would argue that with you, and wars are not as occasional as many think. Even within a single city there are often factions and families working against one another to tear the other down and these things go on for generations.

[He scratched at the back of his head for a moment, struggling with how to put this.] I think that you misunderstand, but it's understandable. Our reproductive cycle is half based upon mutual hatred. [He took a towel and dabbed at his forehead.]

It is a normalized facet of our culture, expected and necessary. Humans simply hate each other at times, even for long periods. We have to hate each other, or our culture does not survive.

Ezio must be delighted to see you have returned!

I know climbing it's not an option. It's a kind of ice, only touching it will immediately damage anything at all. I'm not sure if anyone's tried to go under, it wouldn't surprise me if the ground was frozen as well though.

What can I say, it gets hard to stand people who are content not to know and will try to ignore this war until it passes them by. So sometimes I help out.
