002; Jake and Jade--Video;
[As the video comes on there are two kids standing next to each other, one male, one female... and they look incredibly similar to one another. They both seem to have the same dorky, cheery little expression on their face, buck teeth, and glasses, and if you didn’t know any better, you might assume that they’re twins. Close, but not quite. See that girl? That girl is the boy’s grandmother. Yeah, crazy right? But this isn’t about their weird relationship. This is more about them wanting to introduce themselves... and talk about the freaky pacific island in which they both grew up, but in two totally separate timelines. It takes a moment, but then the boy finally speaks.]
Hello, you must pardon our rather random intrusion here, but I was hoping that Jade and I might be able to properly introduce ourselves!
[The girl waves, a big grin spreading across her face.]
Hi everyone! Yes, we should do that now. This is Jake!
[Jake grins somewhat, and he reaches up to scratch at the side of his cheek. He’s slightly embarrassed to be introduced, but well, what the hell? He’s just having a little bit of his fun with his paradox grandma.]
I thought it might be a good idea if we explained where we live, since a few people don’t seem to believe me about it! I can assure you folks that Jade and I have both lived there for quite some time, even if it was at different times!
[Noticing his bashfulness, Jade reaches to squeeze his free hand. There’s nothing to be embarrassed about, really.]
That’s right! And we were both the only ones there. Well, I had Bec, but there weren’t any other people.
[Jake does seem to jump a little bit, surprised that Jade just squeezed his hand. He’s still adjusting to the feeling of human contact, so it’s definitely going to take some getting used to. Nevertheless, he manages a smile.]
I happened to just have a plethora of wild beasts to keep my company, and well, in a rather roundabout sense, I was hoping that having proof from another person, that this island does indeed exist, might clear up some confusion! [Kaz. He is looking at you.]
[Human contact is new for Jade as well, and this isn’t normally something she would do, but she’s never had the chance to interact with an actual family member before. Even if Jake is older than her now, she's still his grandmother, and he's her responsibility.]
Of course it exists! Why would anyone think you were lying?
[Jake purses his lips a bit, almost in a grimace, before he laughs, muttering something along the lines of, “I’ll explain later.” before he glances back through the feed.]
I suppose it’s rather hard for some chums to believe that you and I lived alone there and turned out so... normal!
[Jade just blinks at that, turning her attention back to the screen.]
Well, we had computers! Those are almost as good as people.
[He shrugs somewhat, seeming slightly perplexed at the idea of people not understanding how he and Jade survived.]
Some folks are just going to be nitpicky and bothersome about it, I guess! There’s nothing we can really do about that, other than explain things to them, even if they’re going to be stubborn oxes and not want to believe a word of it!
[She nods.]
That’s a great idea! And even if they choose not to believe us, we both know it is true.
[Jake manages a laugh, knowing that there’s truth behind what Jade says.]
And even if we were making this all up, we might be giving those troll blokes a run for their money, right?
[No. Jake, trolling doesn’t work like that.]
[That makes her giggle.]
Yes! But we aren’t, so they do not have to worry.
[Jake smiles a little hearing Jade laugh and lets out a bit of a heavy sounding breath.]
All of our chatter aside, if anyone wanted to ask us anything at all about the island, I can assure you all that we’re both very open books on the matter!
