Video § The Icicle

[Hello, Asgard, meet Braxiatel. Unlike Irving, he's got no trace of the grey in his hair and the wrinkles are non-existent. Well, apart from the frown lines on his face.

He actually spent most of his time cooped up and not talking to anyone, reading the copious notes that his elder self had left for just such an occasion.

He's not as at ease as he is. He is a little nervous, honestly, and not good at hiding it.

He doesn't want to be making this post.]

Greetings. Asgard.

I apologise for... Irving Braxiatel's... absence at his... responsibilities. As you can see there are... extenuating circumstances. [Could you be more miserable about it?]

I'm sure all will return to normal in due course.

[And he has nothing further to say.]

[ Is this real?

It is.

The gods sure like doing this to their people lately. It's getting ridiculous. But, oh, this is amazing. The Doctor can't help the gleeful smile. ]

Brax! Look at you!

[ No, this is just. Amazing. He's suppressing laughter. ]

[He's not. He's certainly not any kind of gleeful either.] I know what I look like.

[Ril just grins for awhile. Look at that face. Don't be mad, but you look positively adorable.]

I'm sure it will. But first, are you coming for tea or not?

That's not necessary. I just need to be left in peace.

[He gets a look. Ril's still in healer's garbs after coming off a shift and she's carefully unpinning her hair with her bracelet propped up.]

Come now, it's only just about the best tea in Asgard. Mind, hiding away won't do you any good. [Ril waves a hairpin at him.] I'll just come find and bother you.

[He watches her quietly and without much emotion messing with her hair before wincing at her decision to come bother him.]

If you know it would be a bother, why would you do it?

[ This response takes a while to get here, partly because Maglor has been not-sleeping in the park til late at night as usual, and partly because he took one look at his bracelet this morning and noped out until he had something to eat and drink first. The Maglor that greets this strange version of his roommate is every bit the cool Elf Lord who once sat in council and held his brothers' leashes, face and voice studiously neutral and polite ]

My thanks for letting us know. If it would be uncomfortable for you, I can avoid the room for the nonce?

...oh, goodness.

[If Six looks surprised, that's because he is. What is it with the Gods' love of making various random people younger?]

Ah... are you quite alright?

[Brax doesn't sound at all happy about what's going on.]

[Brax looks down at his notes to place him. But is relieved to have a neutral face, even if it's not quite Gallifreyan.

He is caught inbetween good manners and genuinely wanting isolation.]

If it is necessary for you to return at any point, then I would be… loathe to forbid it, but thank you for your offer.

[A neat compromise.]

I'm… [not really all that] fine. Thank you.

[He just wants… well, not to go home, because who wants to be isolated and buried under study and Academy politics. But he does want some peace.]

[ bb!Brax isn't as good at hiding his emotions as his older self, especially not from a roommate who was a politician in his past. (There may be a small, teeny, little part of Maglor that finds this amusing, but most of him is still 'noping' at this whole situation) He bows once, graceful and exactingly polite ]

It will not be the first time I sought my rest elsewhere. [ he shrugs - a night or two under the stars is no great hardship provided it doesn't rain ] I will seek not to bother you unnecessarily. [ a considering pause, then ] I count your self a good friend, and hope that you return the favour, or will one day. If you need any aid during this time, do not hesitate to ask.

[Sorry, Irving...Braxiatel...whichever one you are. Anna is just a little confused and why do you kind of look familiar?]

Absence? You mean he's not here?

Because hiding solves nothing and the tea is just that good. [She flashes a bright grin.]Also, because I've made enough tea for you, so, one way or another you're getting it.

And...who are you?

[You know, the important question kind of thing.]

[It's difficult to be fond of the face in the mirror, especially when that face instructs without explanation or, as far as the younger self can tell, much in the way of respect.

Talk of favours owed adds to the impression that any affability is a pretence on his elder self's part.

Brax reacts accordingly, with suspicion and coolness.]

I can fend for myself.

[Brax does not smile back.] Even if I would classify my desire for solitude as 'hiding', which, for clarity's sake, I tell you I do not, what, do you suppose, I'm trying to 'solve' beyond a need to keep to myself?

Considering he is me, he is, for all practicality, not here.

I am his first self.

[ the acknowledging tip of the head is calm, and there is nothing in voice or face to show the stab of distress that Maglor feels, that his friend should doubt him so ]

Of that, I have very little doubt. Yet, it changes nothing in my offer. I can do no less.

So, what's that mean exactly?

[He's confused by the insistence, or at least its tone. His theory is no longer as firm.]

Very well.

However many regenerations and centuries lie between me and him have been reversed. I am currently a student at the Time Lord Academy, studying to become a productive member of my society.

[ Maglor nods once more, accepting ]

Then that is all I can ask. Fare well, [ here, he hesitates briefly - he has always addressed his roommate by his first name, the second being a little strange sounding in his ears, but he also recalls what Booth said to him earlier this month, and so ] Master Braxiatel.

[Since he hasn't adopted the Irving name yet, that was a good call.]
