i. ( video ) night → 369

[ Strange, how the peculiar hush unique to libraries is preserved even across the far-flung branches of Yggdrasil.

Loki is smiling in his singular way, with neither joy nor amusement to be found. He lounges in the simple chair as if enthroned, a sprawl of artless limb and glinting eye. To his left, a stack of books can be seen in the fringe of the screen, settled neatly one atop another. Arranged as carefully as Loki himself is.

And he shifts forward, filling the frame. Despite his best efforts, he last few days have proved fruitless for him: he has read and read and read again the paltry knowledge that the false-Allfather's house of books had held. He has gone through the network's history with a fine-toothed comb. He knows that he has neither anonymity or obscurity as his allies, though blessed be those in their naivete who would believe him thus crippled.

His smile quiets. ]

A curiosity to discuss, my fellow denizens of — [ his gaze flicks askance, his shoulders rising in a show of nonchalance ]Asgard. All things must end, so that all things may begin again. Life. Death, also. It is the prescribed way, if one were to believe the philosophy of the Gods.

[ The Gods, he says, with no small amount of irony. ] Why, then, have we been harnessed and put to plow, as lowing cattle must be? You and he and she and Loki Silvertongue, too? Ragnarok will fall. The end of the world will come to pass, whether or not the false deities of this painted playhouse take yours and my freedom and make a mockery of all that we are.

Does it not fill you with rage?

[ In one swift movement, he draws his hands up, pressing them flat against the tabletop. His voice curls into a murmur. ]

Our rage heats in the same crucible. Let us not let it fall to waste.

A forewarning: your brother is present. Be prepared for him if you are not already.

As for the subject of your little spiel, you would have us take up your own rage and act upon your whims? You have only arrived. You know nothing of what lies in the hearts of the travelers present. As though the continuation of existence is not important, as though Ragnarok is an inevitability.

Life. Death. Everything's reincarnation. If it's going to happen what we can do is look toward the future.

[Inara's eyebrows furrow a little. His words make a pretty speech, but such things are not needed now.]

Many of us are indeed less than pleased at being brought here. But, I do not believe we need your... speeches that seem to be attempting to enrage us further.

[She considers him for a long moment before speaking, her words carefully chosen.] We can rage all we want, rage against those who brought us, against those who attack us, against everything, but rage makes you stupid.

Rage isn't what you need. It's the ability to gather those around you, unite them and let them see what you see. Then you can change the world, or end it in the way that you see fit.

A curious point of view. What leads you to believe Ragnarok -- or rather, its loss -- an inevitability?

Admittedly, I am rather fond of cows. They accomplish much that we cannot.

[It's not even two days later, and it seems the surprises never end. An Asgard that Sif does not recognize as her own, full of people whose faces - mostly - she doesn't know, endangered by powers she apparently can combat with words (oh, Loki would have a laugh, she thinks upon finding out) - and then, of course, when you invoke the devil too often.

'lo. Does he appear.

At first, she believes it's a trick, because this Loki, too, is not the one she remembers. And then she recalls what both Fandral and Thor warned her, of the years she's missed - or not yet reached - and death-but-not-death of Loki, the destruction, the chaos (no shock there), and the hurt wrought to the royal family. He looks - not older, but changed; she can't pinpoint it yet, but the suspicious look in the corners of his eyes is more open now. Mad, she dares to think, and afterwards she listens.

And. Of course.

He drones on and on and on and yes, everyone gets it, Loki. Everyone is filled with rage, everyone has been kidnapped just like you, will you cease with the metapho-

One would assume that none are better fit for the role of cattle than Loki Silvertongue himself.

If we can stall the end of the world, I am happy to know that.

[And she sees what you're attempting to do, Loki, and she doesn't like it.]

If you don't wish to fight, then do not fight. It's that simple.

Aren't you eager? Just arrived to a new world, filled with others from many others worlds, and expecting them to listen to someone who so publicly calls for an uproar.

I must wonder if your rage clouded your mind that much.

I have already known life, death, and rage long before stepping foot into Asgard. What would a god who is now here thrice over know any of those feelings? I thought gods were immortal.

The thought of it fills me with a few things, yeah, but don't think rage is one of them, no.

[Shrug. He is so very intense over this, she almost feels bad for not getting worked up along with him.]

Question, though. What're you gonna do after getting everyone's rage ignited, exactly?

[No. Out of the many mockeries this Asgard-the-Lesser has made out of their proper home, Fandral believes this to be one of the cruelest (and with no small amount of bias). Mourning once is hard enough, and it leaves cracks in the heart that not even news of a miraculous survival can every truly mend. Twice is worse, and it isn't even real this time, a metaphoric death of mind and soul that empathy cannot seem to reach. The third time is almost expected, the numerical bearer of unfortunate news, but it still reaches this time, deeper than the heart, shattering something that cannot even be named.

With another miraculous resurrection, the growing times of mourning inevitably stretches to four. Beyond, perhaps, but there is no bearing that consideration. This is already too much.

This is not to say with any miracle that forgiveness is inherent and forsworn. No, this bittersweet relief carries an anger beneath the surface that Fandral is loathe to liken to Loki's speech. Even speaking this rage misplaces it, drawn from too many sources of blame to every correctly be directed.

Fandral stares at the bracelet for a good, long moment, caught between the desire to crush it and be done with this, or toss it away, forgotten until he has an excuse to say it simply slipped his mind. But he also recalls that conversation with Sif, the confusion between their timelines, and wonders.]

I have known what it is to rage against one's fate and yet it changes naught. All I have ever known rage to bring is sorrow in its wake. I will not fall to that sin again.

[And he wonders for another good ten minutes or so, before he grumbles under his breath and turns the damned video feed on.

There will be no living with him after this, Fandral.]

It is nice to see you're no worse for wear, Loki.

[And while this mockery of Asgard fills him with many emotions, many of them conflicting, rage barely ranks among them. Bitterness, perhaps, but when was a campaign ever waged and won on petty resentment?]

Another Loki, huh. You guys from the other Asgards really do get pissed off about all this.

[Like he's one to talk. But he's all bland amusement for now, because he's enough of a hypocrite to laugh at people reacting just like he did.]

There's more worlds involved than yours now, man. And I'm not just letting mine get destroyed when my kind still have work to do. Take the revolution somewhere else.

[There are so many of these that happen- "instill a riot, start something with rage" that Ezio is beginning to roll his eyes a little. Certainly, he doesn't agree with everything going on here, or how they are brought in, but there are much more subtler ways to go about it.]

Do you enjoy hearing yourself talk, messere, or are you actually willing to listen when people tell you that you are being ridiculous?
