[It's late when the video flickers on, Rapunzel is seated near a window with the stars in view, along with the dim light revealing more of her paintings. Pascal is curled up asleep at her lap nested in her hair, let loose from the daily braid at night.]

So, those apples are....different? But...if I believe what the red one showed me, I guess I'm not so scared about going back home, meeting my real parents. You know what I mean? I haven't tried the others, but there seemed to be a few different colours. I hope nobody had anything too bad happen with them?

[Rapunzel seems genuinely a bit concerned there, with the warning on the bark and all. She doesn't know what the other colours might have potentially done to people. She figures even her own red one could potentially have been a lot worse, if it does really show the future. Even if she will now forever be traumatized by Eugene dying there, she at least has the reassurance of the kingdom and her parent's welcome for her at her return.]

A-anyway, I wanted to ask, since I'm kind of having trouble sleeping for some reason, what sorts of stories does everyone know from home? I only had three books in the tower, so I'd love to hear some from everyone.

[ Eugene's up, still cleaning his mess from the other day. He's in need of a shower after this, definitely. But he still keeps the communicator near, because what if Rapunzel pops up?

And she does! He stops his wiping down of the counter and shoots the lens a grin. ]

Story time, Babe?

[She's not surprised to see him still up and cleaning, but gives him a small smile, biting her bottom lip briefly.]

Yes! I'd like to hear some. Oh! But we could see if that 'Tales of Flynnigan Rider' is in the library? I think I'd like to read that sometime.

I got a pretty new dress from the blue apple! And what do you mean your real parents, Miss Rapunzel?

Oh, you did? I didn't get a dress with mine, but that is probably because I had a red one? And as for my real parents, I mean....well, I've told you and others about Mother Gothel? She's....not actually my real mother. She just wanted me for my hair and its power.

Very..sheltered? You see now why I have so many questions about things?

Well, that doesn't seem too bad at least?

Then why still call her mother at all? She sounds dreadful! Why not just call her Gothel or even "the Gothel" like they do in some fairy tale books? But how surprised she would be to come here now, when you know the truth and your hair can't do such things.

And of course! I know plenty of stories, and what I can't remember, I can make up!

What kind of stories do you hope to learn?

I ate one of 'em and it just tasted of fish. Not even nice fish either, you know-- old fish.

Weeeell, there are stories about myself, if we want to go there. Though if the subject of today is sleeping, Sandy is the guy for that.

I suppose Gothel is fine. It's just....habit after all these years to call her mother, I guess. But I'm trying to correct myself on that.

[But oh gosh. Imagining Gothel here. Would she even manage, without Rapunzel's hair? She wonders if the healers might be able to help with that or the gods might find some way around it.]

Would you like to tell me one? I'm sure you know lots more stories than I do, Alice! I'd love to hear one.

Oh. I suppose. The main thing I could think of might be the crown.

Oh, I know about the library! I just haven't had time yet to read too many of the books I've found there. There are so many I want to read!

As for what kind of stories....I don't know, something with a nice ending?

...No, actually, but he heard mention of sleep. And stories. So he might as well have. (Ugh, and he knows what you're talking about with sleep, Rapunzel. He's never had sleep issues like this before, so it's unsettling. Thus, story time is distraction time.)

Sandy, looking rather sleepy, perks up and waves at her before drawing on his sketchpad and turning it around to show a picture of a book with a question mark next to it.

...He could either be asking her if she wants to read a book, or what kind of story she wants to hear.

(Or, well, see? Read? Either way, he's not going to be speaking the story.)

Sandy, learn sign language or something. Your drawings are too vague sometimes.]

Stories about Jack Frost? I've never heard any! Can you tell me some?

[There's a soft giggle at that.]

Oh, I've met him. He seems really nice! I just worry if he falls asleep so suddenly he might hurt himself is all.

[Rapunzel gives a wave in return, smiling at the familiar face she met earlier and watching him use the sketchpad. She isn't sure if he means to ask if she wants to read a book or what kind of story to tell, but she considers for a moment.]

I'm not sure which kind of story. Something....happy?

[He smiles and holds up a finger. One moment.

Then he jumps off camera. There's a minute of rustling and the occasional soft thump, then he comes back holding a notebook.

He plops back down in a sitting position and opens up the book to the first place.

Clearly, the pictures inside are handmade. It looks like a comic book, actually, and it even has words and speech bubbles. He had been bored and decided to make something nice for the kids of Sigyn, though he has yet to put on the finishing touches and put it down in the lounge. Just go ahead and tell him when to turn the page, Rapunzel.

The first two pages depict a town full of rickety old houses at the edge of a forest, and the sun is beginning to set over the horizon. Brilliant colors and bold strokes of pencil and pen alike bring the illustrations to life, letting them stand in bold clarity, as if he had seen the scene yesterday. Most towns are alike.

Children walking back home to the waiting arms of their parents. Most of them have playful children with loving families.

Adults folding up stalls or closing shops. Most of them have the grown-ups, trying to get by.

Looking into a window. The silhouette of someone blowing out a candle. All of them sleep...

The sun is gone. The moon is rising. Tendrils of sand are creeping through the sky. ...and they all have dreams.

The forest, lurking on the edges of the town, the shadows becoming stark and sharp in the night. Although some towns, like this one, have traits to set them apart.

In the shadows, glimmering eyes like hard-cut gems open and pointy teeth are bared. This one slept next to a court of the fae.]

[Rapunzel curls up a bit more, watching through the bracelet as Sandy produces the book, impressed with the illustrations and reading, admiring the art as he flips through the pages.]

Everyone has dreams. Fae? You mean, fairies?

I would love to tell you one, just like when we were in the same house! Which... I am very sorry about not living with you. You're not mad, are you?

You should! I'm not mad. We still see each other after all! I need your help with my hair, for starters, Alice. I'm just glad you found somewhere and you're happy. That's the important thing!

Of course I'll help with your hair! I love your hair, Miss Rapunzel, it's so soft and so pretty! Like a river of gold but much more pleasant to hold. I could brush and braid it all day!
