I think I'm finally homesick. [ Jade doesn't seem particularly torn up or melancholy about this - thoughtful, more than anything. ] What do you guys usually do about it?

[ It's a half question. ]

Yes.

( After a moment of hesitating. )

It's over for me. But, not for Malfoy.

[ Hold on while she fiddles with the filters here. ]

.. he used to worry about it a lot. I think he still does.

( It takes her a moment, and then she nods. )

Things were -- are complicated, especially at home and especially for him. It turns out all right, but..

.. he said he'd let everyone out of the basement.

[ She's looking away, suddenly uncomfortable. ]

If he had the choice now.

( Oh. )

( Well, that's a feeling, isn't it? A big feeling, a feeling that hurts and threatens to overwhelm her. Swallowing around the lump in her throat, she nods. )

Did .. he tell you what happened, that day?

.. I saw his dreams. I couldn't do anything about them-- I just saw them.

( She stiffens slightly, before relaxing. She was in that dream. Well, one of them. )

It wasn't his fault. What happened to m- to us, it wasn't his fault. There wasn't anything he could do, his Aunt would have killed him.

.. he could have found a way.

[ 'Draco Malfoy, the boy who wasn't given a choice.' Jade believes it but doesn't, all at the same time. ]

But he's sorry, you know. Even if he won't say it.

( Hermione's quiet for a few moments. )

I used to think that. I used to be angry and think that maybe he could have done something, instead of just standing there. But .. I visited his dream too, and I don't .. I don't think so.

I can't speak for all of us, but I'm sorry, too. But being sorry isn't getting either of us anywhere, is it?

.. do you forgive him? It's okay if you don't. It's none of my business, really.

( Hermione sighed, rubbing her bandaged arm off camera. )

It's complicated. Do I forgive him for the things that aren't his fault? Yes. Do I forgive him for years of antagonistic bullying that he wasn't pushed into? Not necessarily.

( A little bit more quietly. )

I don't hate him. We were children, forced to be adults, fighting other people's wars. Now we have to deal with the aftermath.

... yeah. That can't be pleasant.

[ It's a world that she can't imagine. She grew up fast, too, but in measures, and she's never balked at it, not really. It was just how things had to be. ]

He was a git when he was a child, remind me to tell you stories.

( Cheer up, Jade, have a smile. )

I'm ... homesick, like you. But, I'm okay. And I hope Malf- .. Draco is, too. I'd been meaning to say something to him, but .. I don't know what to say.

I think you should definitely tell me stories right now. I will take any ammo I can use against him, thank you very much.

Has he told you about the time a troll broke into dungeons at our school? I wasn't there, but my best friends said that Malfoy dropped the food he was eating like he was going to be sick and started screaming like a girl when the announcement was made.

( Oh, she can just picture the look on his face. )

Has he been rude to you, lately?

Scared of trolls, huh? [ Jade is grinning- she can't help it, and she seems to be mentally filing that away for later. ] He sounds like a real brat when you talk about it.

He was a complete spoiled brat when he was a child. Chubby cheeks and ridiculous blond hair. Horrible.

( Hermione stared at her for a moment, before grinning as well. )

How about the story where I punched him in the face?

[ HA her ears actually perk at this. ]

You punched him? Over what?

When I was in third year, a friend of ours had a pet .. er, hippogriff, which is sort of like a huge eagle with the body and hind legs of a horse. The hippogriff had attacked Malfoy for being rude - no surprises there - and was being executed that day -- it was horrible, really!

Right after it happened, Malfoy said something horrid about it and I just .. I just snapped! So I pulled out my wand and was going to hex him, but decided not to and then I just hit him instead!

( She seems a little sheepish. )

He really .. shouldn't have said anything.. Anyway, it all turned out all right, Buckbeak, the hippogriff, was saved anyway..

[ Bahaha. You are winning her over pretty fast, Hermione. ]

I think I probably would have punched him too.

I think that was the first time anyone punched him. ( She might be a little proud. )

Maybe I'll punch him just to say I did.

I'm not sure how he'll react now. That was a long time ago..
