Ahem.

( Hermione is clearing her throat, almost nervously. Is this thing on...? )

It's come to my attention, since I've arrived here, that apparently I've been here before. I don't remember it but so many other people do .. I can't exactly deny that it might be true. I was just wondering how many people met the other 'me' and what exactly I was like. What relationships we had. I don't remember anything about that time and I'd rather not offend anyone.

( Her tone is more tentative than matter-of-fact, worried rather than skeptical. She clearly looks troubled by the fact that people remember her but she can't remember them. She might have made friends, enemies, developed all sorts of relationships with people and it didn't matter at all now, if she couldn't remember. )

I was also wondering .. is there somewhere I can practice the power that I've been given now that I'm here?

There's the Teacher's Council! A bunch of us volunteer to show people how to use their powers correctly.

You've been here before and don't remember it? How peculiar! Do you think there is a forest of forgetfulness here? Oh! But then.... you aren't in a forest. I wonder why it is you can't remember!

[ Jade was going to pass this over, to answer later, but then she saw the name attached to the message- ]

( Blink. Are those .. dog ears? Or..? )

Er.. Yes, sorry, I should have said. Yes, I'm Hermione Granger. Do I know you? Rather, did I know you?

[ Yep. They are, in fact, dog ears. ]

You don't! And you didn't. I'm just roommates with someone from your world.

That seems to be what I'm looking for, thanks. I'm still finding my way about, but if you tell me what district, I should be able to find it.. It's a good exercise for me, to be able to find things.

( Sorry, give her a moment. This needs to settle in. )

[ Why is everyone always so surprised to hear that.. ]

( Hermione has to pause for a moment to take all of that in, before shaking her head. )

From what I can tell, it's not overly common for people to come back without their memories. It's not any kind of spell from my world, either, though I thought of that.. The only way to know if you've been here before, I suppose, is through the memories of people who have been here long enough to know.

( For a split second, Hermione was living in hope that someone else from her world was here and she wasn't alone. )

Er. On purpose?

[ Sorry to have gotten your hopes up, Hermione. :( ]

( Right, that was rather rude of her, wasn't it? Especially considering the pain the Malfoy family had suffered after the war... )

No, of course not .. I was just wondering about the housing conditions here! ( Let's try not to think how Malfoy calls you 'mudblood' or how his aunt permanently put that word on your skin, shall we? ) It's good to know that he's .. not alone here.

( Especially considering her last conversation with him. )

But I don't suppose you have a Victorian equivalent of you about.

Er. Not that I know of. I think I'm a bit too forward thinking for that, honestly.

That must be strange. I can't imagine two of you. Can I meet him, sometime?

The housing conditions are pretty nice, actually. Um- if you stay in the welcome halls, everything is provided for you. If you get a job and move out on your own, it's a little nicer, but you have to pay.

[ She pauses, one of her ears twitching. She is, visibly, a little uncomfortable. ]

Do you mind if I ask a kind of weird question?

I .. understand that kind of style of housing, actually! It was like that at home, for me. I could have lived somewhere else, but .. it was better to be on my own for a bit.

( Oh goodness. Hermione takes a deep breath, nodding slightly. What kind of thing would this person want to ask? )

Sure. Er, if it's too personal, I might not answer? But go ahead.

Well.. I've been here for a really long time, so if you have any questions or anything, you can ask me! I mean, I'm sure there are a million people you could ask, but I honestly don't mind. And if you need help with your powers, too- I've practiced mine up a lot.

[ She takes a breath. Jade talks a lot. Nerves are making it worse. ]

-- is Draco in Azkaban?

( Hermione looks startled by the question. Then she leans back into her chair, her entire face falling. It's as if her entire body language has changed - shoulders hunching, arms hugging herself lightly. But she's all right, for now. It's just difficult to think about. )

I don't know .. if I can tell you this, to be honest. I haven't even told Malfoy about what happens to him in the future, other than that he lives. I'd like to have that conversation with him myself.

( Hermione takes a deep, steadying breath. )

But no, he's not in Azkaban. Did he tell you about it?

You can have that! I mean, I won't take it away from you- it's really, really not any of my business, and I don't really know what Azkaban is, other than prison.

[ She sucks on her own lower lip, then flashes Hermione a smile. An earnest one, buckteeth on full display. ]

I just worry about him a lot- I wanted spoilers.

[Because there's no way in hell he can have a proper conversation with her face-to-face (or video-to-video) at the moment. It should be evident enough when the words he chooses to send lack the certain Malfoy-bite they usually would.]

Tell me something, Granger. Is walking on eggshells a Gryffindor trait, or are you just that special?

Azkaban is .. a very bad prison. Think of the worst prison on Earth, a place where you definitely would never want to go, ever, and then multiply by a million. Where Draco and I are from, it's a place where the worst criminals are sent to live out life sentences.

( She manages a wobbly smile in return, tucking her legs up to her chest. )

He's .. fine. As well as any of us are after the war. I'm assuming he told you about that. But he's not locked up, or in trouble.

Euri-neechan's already told you about the Teacher's Council, but I can also recommend it! A lot of my friends volunteered to teach there and I've learnt a lot about my power there too.

[He's also one of the teachers, but. Details.]

Tell me, Malfoy. Is being an insufferable prat a Slytherin trait, or are you just gifted?
