[The camera angle showed Samantha leaned up against the brick edifice of one of the buildings in the Loki district. It was just after hours for the day and she'd locked up already. One hand flicked at a dark looking cigarette while she stared into the distance. It was nearly out and she was apparently staring, transfixed by the light while it neared her fingers.

The half demon winced, pinching the embers and crushing them before brushing her hand and letting the last shreds of tobacco and cloves flutter to the ground. She looked at her hand and chuckled to herself]

So, I guess everyone's talking about the fight that's coming. Something's occurred to me. There's a few of us who've had powers stripped, things taken away from them. A few of you have lost a lot, some just a few tricks. Are there any of you who're glad you don't have your powers here, even if it means you're not as strong as you could be against whatever's coming? [It wasn't that she didn't miss her magic, but some of those pieces of being a half demon that made her feel less human... She didn't miss them much.]

Now, just need to get a damned ice pack.

Nah. Some of us had tricks like the ones they gave us or different back where we came from. Some of them were part of our bodies, some were skills. Depends on the person.

I wwouldn't mind havvin' my wwhite science back. My wwand's practically wworthless here, an' this regeneration shit wwas a poor consolation prize, evven if it is useful.

[He pauses before adding.]

[She chuckled and glanced towards the video feed, a sparkle in her eyes there. He'd mentioned his wand being 'science' before, hadn't he? That reminded her of an evil little idea from before.]

So, tell me, Eridan. You've talked about this 'white science' of yours before, I think, or at least something. What exactly do you mean by that? I've always been... curious.

At least, with time, you'll have some measure of it back, but yeah. I know how you feel about that. Don't worry too much about the fire. I've had worse pain before. It's just easy to forget that you can't handle hot and cold as easily as you used to.

It isn't really the same though. Feels -- I don't know, feels more like how normal magicians do it. Not that it's awful, but...

Dunno, I can handle heat pretty well. Probably not as well as I used to, though.

Was it more of a 'natural' thing for you, instead of spells you're casting? That kind of sounds like what you're talking about.

I guess you can call it that. Back home, magic is really just using surrounding Aspects and converting them -- you want to make fire, you gather heat and shape it into a flame. Stuff like that. Different when you're an actual representation of those things.

What do you mean by 'representation' of things? Were you some sort of aspect of fire or something?

More or less. It's different from the usual magic since...you know, people kind of can't normally draw from themselves for pretty obvious reasons.

Not physically, and necromancy's generally a bad idea in my experience. [Absolute hypocrite, right here.] But, alright that makes more sense then, especially why you're pissed off about it. Kind of explains a few things, actually.

A lot of different powers. Knew a bastard who could do that whole telepathy trick. Used to insert itself into people's heads and make them see things that weren't there. Real bastard. Was as bad as anyone here with telepathy, but there's other tricks that we don't have here.

If there wasn't any danger here, I'd be glad. [ But since there is, he can't protect anyone, so he's less glad than he should be about being de-wolfed. ]

Some of mine, I'm actually glad to not have even with the danger. But, nice to see someone else has the same way of looking at things at least a little. Well... outside of you getting stuck with abilities you didn't want in the first place.

My strife specibus? No, it wwas just a bonus. My wweapon a' choice is a harpoon gun, actually. A rather dangerous wweapon, fit for huntin' monsters a' the deep.

An' it means just wwhat you think. Unlike wwhite magic wwhich is clearly unreal, my wwand used science to produce the same effects.

[Huh. And now was the moment where one of Samantha's more controversial opinions as an alchemist came into play.]

Hmmm, honestly, I don't see the difference. Magic is the use of one's will to command a change in the laws of the universe around you. Using a tool to perform it isn't quite the same, but at the end of the day, what's the difference between manipulating metal with magnets or waggling your fingers? The same laws of physics are altered either way.

It's just how you do it.

And what exactly is a "Strife Specibus" anyway? Is that just your main weapon?

I'm getting used to being stuck with abilities I never asked for... It's nice to feel normal here.

Or at least more normal in my case. I don't really feel that normal around here as it stands. Still, I'm glad you're getting that. For people like you and me, whatever it is you are back home, it's kind of nice to feel like just another regular person. Enjoy it.
