The Magic of Travel

[Video]

[There is a slightly panicked Hibiki on the screen, hurriedly stuffing her things into her usual backpack. She's been gradually packing things as they occurred to her, having already intended to go to Utgard with Aladdin, but now that there's a 2 hour announcement... Well, she's in a bit of a rush.

And oddly enough... There's also a small bird (a hummingbird, perhaps?) fluttering around her head all the while.]

U-um!

Aladdin-san and I were going to go to Utgard so we could get the stuff for rune magic, but I didn't think the gods would want us to go, too...

I'll be going with them, so... I won't be at the hospital until we get back. I wanted to let them know before I left, but it looks like I won't be able to...

[She gives a small sigh, but quickly swaps it for a smile.]

A-anyway, if anybody else is coming too, we should all walk together! I've never traveled all the way to another city before, so this will be my first time! I can't wait!

Utgard? I don't think I can go, I have a lot I want to get done here... but maybe I'll talk Hinata into going. He would probably like it! [ Oh if only he knew what he was pitting himself against. ]

I can let the hospital staff know that you'll be absent!

You can't make it, Otonashi-san?

[You can't see it, but the disappointment in her voice definitely rings through. Well, for that sentence anyway. She tries to muster a little more enthusiasm into her words after that.]

I'm excited to go on a trip, but I'm hoping it isn't for too long. I don't want to be separated from everybody.

You'll be able to tell everyone, though? Thank you so much! I was really worried they would all be wondering where I was.

[Someone seriously needs to drag himself out of his man-cave and do things. This is a pretty good reason, especially being he hadn't been running with Hibiki the last couple of days.]

Hi Hibiki - Give me a minute or two and I'll be right over.

No, I'm sorry -- I signed up to practice with a partner! And I know he's a doctor, so I-- I really want to stay and meet him! [ Of course he does. The mixture of apprehension and idealistic excitement is audible. He smiles, though it can't be seen on the audio feed. ]

I definitely will! Hey... if I get Hinata to go, can you keep an eye on him for me? [ Oh, these two. ] And tell him what he needs to do? He, uhh -- he likes having direction! [ And a girl to yell at him and tell him what to do, but Hibiki doesn't seem like the girl for that job. ]

[ And on top of everything, have a completely disheveled blonde who looks like his kitchen and the crayola warehouse of color exploded on him. ]

Rune magic? [ Oh, right, that's a rude way to introduce. ] I haven't been far outside the city either.

Anyone can walk with you..?

Is that your pet?

Oh, that makes sense! You're trying to learn more about healing?

[She's excited for him! After all, she can remember only too well what it was like to keep practicing at her own power.]

Yes, I can watch out for him! But... I think all we have to do is buy certain things for the gods. Would he really need me to tell him?

[She hasn't seen him around too much as a result, so she scrambles to respond quickly once she receives his text. In some ways, it's perhaps a little too quickly...]

Hisaosan your coming too???

[That's okay, she doesn't mind explaining while she folds up a shirt to put into her bag.]

Aladdin-san told me that we should be able to use rune magic here! It uses power from this world. I don't know much about how to work it yet, but I'm hoping if we get the right materials we'll be able to try it when we get back!

[It's not hard to see just how excited she is to try this out.]

I thought, since we'd be traveling to another city, wouldn't it be fun if we all walked together in a group? [Someone hasn't realized they'll be having wagons.]

Yeah! That's the idea. Maybe if there's another trip like this, I'll go. I just can't miss this opportunity.

[ She couldn't see him smiling before, but she can hear him laughing now. ]

Of course he would! He's always looking for feedback. He can take charge if he has to, but I think he'll feel better about leaving me behind if he has a friend!

[ She quite visibly has his interest at the talk of a new magic form. Even if it isn't really new, it's something he wants to hear about. ]

Is this a closed event? Ah -- what I mean is, could I accompany you in... trying to figure it out? [ He hesitates. Does he owe an explanation? ]

I used to do magic a home. A little.

I... I would like that. [ His voice is small when he says this, though. He knows he needs to be more social, but it's a difficult feat when you're weird. ] To walk, I mean. In a group! [ He hasn't realized yet either! ]

I will be! Don't worry, alright?

[Not fair to burden her with this past week's happenings, after all. Plus, they don't have much time to prepare.]

I'll grab a few things to bring with me and then come and meet you. Sound good?

I was planning to let him go, actually. But he seems to be too attached to leave me alone, so... I'll have to bring some sugar water with me!

[Hopefully they'll have flowers along the way, too!]

[Even though he didn't use the audio function much normally, he figured it would probably distress her to see him looking as beaten up as he does.]

Guess I'll have to wait to see you until you get back, huh?

[!! A magic user?! Hibiki is officially In Awe.]

Yes, of course! I'm not very good at magic myself, so any help would be great!

[She doesn't seem to notice any kind of awkwardness at the second bit, either.]

Yay! I just think it would be lots of fun to be able to walk and talk with everybody on the way, don't you think? I'm not sure how far away it is exactly, but it might be a good way to pass the time together.

[She's still worried. But it's true that they need to pack quickly...]

Ok ill meet you at the gate right??

[There are many reasons why she doesn't notice how odd it is, Ichigo using only the audio function. She was already in a rush to pack, but the sound of his voice - a voice which only recently had threatened her badly - is enough to get her to squeak in a mix of fear and surprise.

But that's as long as the terror lasts. His words are back to their normal warmth, which... has to mean he's back to normal. Right? And... that wasn't Ichigo. No matter what he'd said then, she clung to that idea as hard as she could. Ichigo would never do that to her, so it couldn't possibly have been his fault at all.]

K-Kurosaki-san! You're-- ["back to normal" is what she wants to ask initially, but...]

You're, u-umm... You're staying in the city instead?

You will - I'll wait for you, OK?

[And not much later, there is a Hibiki running over to the gate, a hummingbird perched on her shoulder! Where could Hisao be...?]

Hey!

[He was coming up a little behind her. He'd managed to quickly take a shower, grab some books, make a few sandwhiches and grab a few bottles of water all in a relatively short amount of time - Latent activity from the past day or two of mostly sedentary moping?]

I hope you haven't been waiting lo--Oh! Who's your little friend, there?

[He apparently hadn't noticed the hummingbird in Hibiki's video.]

Hisao-san!

[She turns with a happy expression. It's been a little while since they got to talk, after all!]

Oh, him? This is a hummingbird I got as a gift from a friend a long time ago. He's been in my room, but I usually keep it covered so he can sleep.

[She holds her finger next to it, and the hummingbird flutters to perch on her hand, making it easier for her to move it a little closer to Hisao.]

I thought I'd let him free tonight since I couldn't take care of him while I was gone, but... he just kinda kept following me instead.

((Oh Hibiki. Such a good girl. [cry]))

He must really like you then. Have you named him?

I wasn't planning on it. [...] But I guess I should go. I don't know how much help I'll be.

No, I could never come up with a good one. [And she always thought she'd have to let it go someday...]

I'm not sure if I'll be able to do much either, but... My friend told me we can get the stuff to use magic there, too! Maybe you could help us with that?
