I'm not immortal. What sort of Lord of Time would I be if I couldn't travel through it? But I have had them for many centuries.

[He pauses, flops down on a sofa and puts his hands together, rubbing them slightly.]

It's common for species aware enough to tell the passage of time to think that it all goes in a straight line, that the beginning is there, [he puts one of his hands up,] and the end is here, [and he puts his other hand up at the other end of the screen.] That's wrong.

Time is... sorta difficult to explain, really, but it's more like a ball - a timey wimey wibbly wobbly ball - and as a Time Lord I'm able to see the structure of it. There are points in time that I call fixed, points that can't be changed because they're so great and so important that they need to happen over and over and over again.

[He moves his hand in a circle with it, and then clasps them back together.]

I guess this would be what your friend calls fate.

I tried changing a fixed point once. I sort of did. Got attached to the people, thought I had the power and would be able to. Word of advice; don't get that full of yourself.
