Chapter 4 ✒ Audio [Afternoon of Day 130]

[At first all one can hear is panting, then Castle starts to speak, breathlessly.]

This is Richard Castle.. I have no idea what the hell is going on right now, but.. I'm in the library and I've barred the entrances. I think it's... relatively safe here if you want to come... until this is over. The small back door on the North side is unbarred... It's locked though... Knock and I'll let you in. I've got a gun that won't be leaving my hand, so don't get scared if you see the barrel of it before you see my face... I'm not letting those demons in...

If you're near library or in Odin or.. if you're anywhere out and about, please... get inside somewhere. I'll be waiting by the back door.

[Then the feed cuts.]

[Private Audio to Beckett.]

Have you seen what they are? [ She'd rather text to hide the worry in her voice but she's too busy right now. BEING SCARED ]

Baldr district, why?

[She sounds out of breath, and there's a screeching noise in the background before a large bang, followed by a couple more. She's fine, just fighting, and hard.]

Shadows.. ravens that try to peck your eyes out... and worse. I think people are turning..

I've established a shelter at the library in Odin. Get here as quickly as you can and be careful.

[He can hear the screeching and he doesn't like it.]

[Conan was out, gathering supplies for the coming night, when the sudden, unexpected Darkness took him off guard. Castle's post is a welcome sound indeed -- not only is it good to know that a friend is safe but he is close.]

I'm on my way, Castle-san!

I'm going to bring my friends and I there are soon as I can find them.

[She's pale, but her teeth are gritted.]

[Castle looks completely harried on the video, like he's just run a marathon but his eyes are wide with fear.]

Be careful, please. I'll wait for you at the door.

[Castle's looking rather peaked himself right now.]

Ok. Be careful. Stay aware of what's going on around you.

Don't worry too much! I was out getting spare lights, so at least I've got that covered!

[And Castle will be able to see the glow from Conan's flashlight on the feed as he carefully makes his way through the city. There is a caw somewhere in the darkness behind him and Conan picks up his pace, jogging toward the library.]

[ To say that Raven looks a little panicked would be a bit of an understatement. She just brought to Asgard and then this? ]

Do you think it'll be enough, just barring the the entrances?

[Castle jumps because oh my God, the girl on the screen is blue.]

Uh. I-I don't really know. I'm not exactly sure what we're up against, but that was all I could improvise with at the moment.

Ok..

[Even though Castle knew that Conan could handle himself, he still felt immensely worried.]

[He's not the only one either -- notice that although Conan's not talking, he hasn't turned his feed off. To a deductive mind, that speaks volumes about how confident Conan truly feels about the situation.

And then there's a second caw and an audible flutter of wings.]

[ She just stares at him for a moment, displeased by his reaction but then, all things considered, she can't really blame him can she? With everything else that's going on, the strange mutant girl shows up on the video feed... ]

If I went there [ 'If'. Not saying she will for certain. But 'if' ] would you let me in?

[ You know, basically do you trust her to not be one of those darkness monsters or whatever they are? ]

[From what he'd gleamed so far from these creatures, they weren't exactly capable of intelligence beyond "KILLLL". They were like zombies, not really able to talk themselves in here. Plus she was blue and everything he'd seen so far was pitch black.

Then again, he had no idea what to believe anymore.]

[This was driving Castle insane, but Conan was probably right to stay on the line.]

Talk to me Conan. Where are you right now?

Is that what we call the people who were kidnapped and brought here? [ She doesn't really know much about the creatures so she's taking precautions ] If so? Then I'm definitely a Traveler.

Yes. That's what we're called.

[He paused for a moment.]

I'll let you in. You're not one of those.. weird birds.

[He'd never seen a blue person, but this was Asgard. That was all the explanation necessary right now.]

More like victims of a kidnapping than "travelers".

[ Sorry. This isn't the time to be getting huffy about that ]

Oh, thanks... Richard, right?

Not far away! I'm in Thor, following the main road round and--

[Conan pauses. There is the sound of cawing again further away but more meaningful; with it more fluttering wings . Conan makes a motion for silence towards the screen, hoping that Castle will be able to discern him. He doesn't dare glance down. Something is going to happen and he needs to be ready when it does.]

T-that's really nice of you, sir. Thanks for the invitation, I'll be heading there soon.

Do you have room in there for some survivors? I need somewhere to drop them off before I go out again. There's...not much room left here.

[ The young lady on the feed appears to be half-standing on the back of some tall metallic...thing, but only its tail is visible and glimpses of some people sitting further down. ]

[Castle cranes his neck, trying to see what's going on better but knowing that it's fruitless.]

Conan...? What's going on?

Yes, well. Technicalities of Asgard. Have to make it sound nice, you know?
