[ah, such an awkward pause. seth looks mighty uncomfortable about this whole talking-into-a-camera-without-seeing-anyone-else thing—he's basically figured out how the broadcast magical bracelets work, but that doesn't make it any less weird.] Uh, so, hi. Wow, that was a great start! Cool. I just was kinda wondering, it seems like a lot of people here had some kind of... power, or something, back home? And they can't do it here anymore.

Or, I mean, at least there are three of us. We're not the only ones who got screwed, right? Other people got their powers taken away?

[well, not that seth has ever really considered "being able to turn into a giant wolf" to be a power, exactly. but it's simpler than explaining it.]

Man, this place is super weird. I mean, besides the whole kidnapped to help save the world business... which is pretty weird, too. But it's so quiet without being able to hear the pack. —Uh, the tribe. Or— ...I'm rambling.

Niisan! Where I'm from, it's kind of rude to call someone just by their name -- so 'niisan' is how you call a boy who is older but not old enough to be a parent!

Um, I don't know if this counts, but my friend who is an inventor made me special glasses and they don't work here either. That's why I wanted to know what you meant about powers.

Hey, not bad! [two thumbs up!] We're from Washington. In the United States.

—Oh, no kidding? Glasses? That's kind of a weird power to have taken away...

Washington, huh. I hear that's nice!

Oh, I've still got my glasses! They just don't work now -- not like they should. [How to explain this.] It's sort of like -- they had functions, like being able to zoom in on things in the distance, and go infra-red and stuff.

I guess. It's pretty rainy, but the beaches are really nice.

Kinda like Inspector Gadget stuff, huh? That must be pretty inconvenient, if you were used to your specs being able to zoom in.

Exactly like Inspector Gadget. Agasa-hakase -- ah, I mean Professor Agasa, he's an inventor! He's made a lot of things for me to play with.

My turn! What language are you speaking? [it's not accusatory, though, just curious.]

I'm speaking -- ah. [ Wait a moment. Conan's mouth moves as he thinks through a sentence in his head, testing it out. His reply is less chirpy than his tone until now has been, markedly more thoughtful.]

I thought I was speaking English -- I can, but I slip into Japanese accidentally, like when I said 'hakase' instead of 'professor' -- because it's his name, I don't really think of it as something to translate.

But now that I think about it, I don't think I am. Either language I mean.

Ah, it's fine! I don't think you could challenge his copyright from here. I wish I could show you, but none of it works ... Anyway the glasses have a tracking function too. My friends and I have badges like this [Indicating the Detective Boys Badge on his jacket] which are also radios and have a locating beacon inside. Using these glasses you can see where everyone is easily!

[...pauses to think about it. he'd kind of thought he was speaking english too, since that's his default language—but now that he's been prompted to think about it, he's not. it takes a second to come up with the english words:] I think you're right.

[and then again, in the language that comes most naturally now:] I think you're right. Whoa, hey, that's... whoa.

[the surprise over the language swap is enough that he's not totally focusing on the explanations, but he picks up the basics: tracking functions, radios, what the heck.] ...So you basically are Inspector Gadget. That's pretty cool!

What language do you think this is? [He can hear it, now he's thinking about it, echoes of something old, European, but nothing he can definitely say he recognises ...]

I have no idea. Uh... [well, thinking about it for a second.] Isn't Asgard some kinda... like old Norwegian thing? So maybe it's... old... Norwegian?

Haha, thanks! I'd teach you some words, but... we don't really have words for "boys older than you" and "boys younger than you" or anything. [thinks about it.] The word for a young man is "tsidá• poʔó•ḳᵂ".

No, that's a weird one. What about "older brother"? That's "há•dos". [which is pronounced basically how it looks, but with a long "a"—haydos.]

Ha, I think people might say we've got too many -- and how you use them can range from respect, affection to token respect ...
