1.

[hello assguards, have a sort of perplexed-looking boy. he's sitting outside heimdall house, for anyone who... may be in the area. or whatever.]

Heeeey... [ah, such an awkward pause. seth looks mighty uncomfortable about this whole talking-into-a-camera-without-seeing-anyone-else thing—he's basically figured out how the broadcast magical bracelets work, but that doesn't make it any less weird.] Uh, so, hi. Wow, that was a great start! Cool. I just was kinda wondering, it seems like a lot of people here had some kind of... power, or something, back home? And they can't do it here anymore.

Or, I mean, at least there are three of us. We're not the only ones who got screwed, right? Other people got their powers taken away?

[well, not that seth has ever really considered "being able to turn into a giant wolf" to be a power, exactly. but it's simpler than explaining it.]

Man, this place is super weird. I mean, besides the whole kidnapped to help save the world business... which is pretty weird, too. But it's so quiet without being able to hear the pack. —Uh, the tribe. Or— ...I'm rambling.

[he's a split second from turning off the camera function when it occurs to him:] Oh! I'm Seth, by the way. Hi. [okay now he's turning it off BYE]

Hi, Seth-niisan!

[Have a cheerful wave. Conan's got his camera skills down pat.]

Ne -- when you say 'power' what do you mean exactly? And you've been kidnapped before?

[ditto that.]

[identity profile] holmes-fanatic.livejournal.com 2011-12-13 09:01 am (UTC)(link)
Niisan! Where I'm from, it's kind of rude to call someone just by their name -- so 'niisan' is how you call a boy who is older but not old enough to be a parent!

... a werewolf without the full moon. Does ... that mean you turn into a wolf?

[identity profile] holmes-fanatic.livejournal.com 2011-12-13 09:11 am (UTC)(link)
You don't mind?

... [That's -- Conan's Japanese pronunciation is going to struggle here.] What -- language is that, Seth-niisan?

[identity profile] holmes-fanatic.livejournal.com 2011-12-13 09:21 am (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't do that!

[Okay, Conan can kind of attempt that.] Qui-leu-te. Where are your tribe from?

Um, I don't know if this counts, but my friend who is an inventor made me special glasses and they don't work here either. That's why I wanted to know what you meant about powers.

[identity profile] holmes-fanatic.livejournal.com 2011-12-13 09:31 am (UTC)(link)
Washington, huh. I hear that's nice!

Oh, I've still got my glasses! They just don't work now -- not like they should. [How to explain this.] It's sort of like -- they had functions, like being able to zoom in on things in the distance, and go infra-red and stuff.

[identity profile] holmes-fanatic.livejournal.com 2011-12-13 09:37 am (UTC)(link)
And you've got forests and that, right?

Exactly like Inspector Gadget. Agasa-hakase -- ah, I mean Professor Agasa, he's an inventor! He's made a lot of things for me to play with.

[identity profile] holmes-fanatic.livejournal.com 2011-12-13 09:46 am (UTC)(link)
I'm speaking -- ah. [ Wait a moment. Conan's mouth moves as he thinks through a sentence in his head, testing it out. His reply is less chirpy than his tone until now has been, markedly more thoughtful.]

I thought I was speaking English -- I can, but I slip into Japanese accidentally, like when I said 'hakase' instead of 'professor' -- because it's his name, I don't really think of it as something to translate.

But now that I think about it, I don't think I am. Either language I mean.

Ah, it's fine! I don't think you could challenge his copyright from here. I wish I could show you, but none of it works ... Anyway the glasses have a tracking function too. My friends and I have badges like this [Indicating the Detective Boys Badge on his jacket] which are also radios and have a locating beacon inside. Using these glasses you can see where everyone is easily!

[identity profile] holmes-fanatic.livejournal.com 2011-12-13 09:57 am (UTC)(link)
What language do you think this is? [He can hear it, now he's thinking about it, echoes of something old, European, but nothing he can definitely say he recognises ...]

Ha, not any more! Now I'm just Edogawa Conan.

[identity profile] holmes-fanatic.livejournal.com 2011-12-13 10:02 am (UTC)(link)
It's a Norse myth -- the home of the gods. [Which reminds him--] Speaking of, where did you get sent?

That's all right! Edogawa's my surname anyway, so you can just call me Conan.

[identity profile] holmes-fanatic.livejournal.com 2011-12-13 10:09 am (UTC)(link)
Heimdall -- he's the gatekeeper, isn't he? The guard? Ah -- I think everyone's still figuring that out at the moment!

If you want, you can call me Conan-kun -- 'cause I'm younger and not a girl. But you don't have to!

[identity profile] holmes-fanatic.livejournal.com 2011-12-13 10:20 am (UTC)(link)
Guardians and Gatekeeper -- you're right! It does make sense.

Right! You're pretty good at this, Seth-niisan!

[identity profile] holmes-fanatic.livejournal.com 2011-12-13 10:49 am (UTC)(link)
Ha, I think people might say we've got too many -- and how you use them can range from respect, affection to token respect ...

Seth-haydos. [Said carefully -- and it's close enough to Japanese sounds that he doesn't mangle it beyond recognition.]

[identity profile] holmes-fanatic.livejournal.com 2011-12-13 11:03 am (UTC)(link)
It sounds strange, right? I'll stick to Seth-niisan then.

Ne -- you said you'd talked to other people who'd lost powers? Powers like yours?
