003 | Video - Day 317
--there we are!
[There's a blur of close-up whiteness as the Doctor pulls back from setting his bracelet down on a surface a little distance in front of him. He's not wearing his coat right now, just a colorful waistcoat and plain white shirt. And he's got a kitten in his lap. It's grey, small, and very fuzzy, with the unfinished look of a very young kitten.]
Is anyone missing a kitten? I found this little fellow in my coat pocket, but he's a bit too small to be running around a city on his own. I've no idea where he might have come from.
[He gently rubs the little kitten under its chin, murmuring at it too quietly for the bracelet to catch.]
If he doesn't belong to anyone, I'll have to ask if someone could take him. I do like cats, but I'd really rather not have one for a pet.

[He knows the one she's talking about.]
video.
K9 was perfectly well-behaved, old girl; I hardly think a kitten would do any better.
video.
Oh yes, certainly. When you were around. It's not my fault he can't understand me when he asked me where you were.
video.
You know, I really should have made it so you two could chat a bit more easily. There must have been a way to do that... mmm...
[By tinkering with K9 this time, old girl, you don't have to worry about your systems for once.]

I think the cats have a plot to take the city over.
[He was going to continue, but a small chirruping noise interrupts him--not from the kitten in his lap, as it happens. He'll get up, gently depositing it in his seat, and move off-camera for a moment... though you can hear his voice.]
...where did you come from? I'm sure you weren't there a moment ago.
[And then he's back, with another kitten in his hands. This one is orange and white, and he's looking a rather confused.]
See? I told you. The kitten apocalypse is upon us!
I think I might be the only one affected, if the network is anything to go by. So a very small apocalypse, if it can be called that.
[He picks up the grey one and does his best to hold them both without dropping them as he sits back down and gets them settled. Luckily they seem more interested in sleeping than exploring the new place they're in.]
I'd ask if you wanted one, but I suspect you're not at all interested.
Oh Doctor! He's adorable! Oh could I please have him? Please? Please sir?
Ah, Alice... which would you like? I appear to have two, now.
[Of course he suspects the gods almost at once--there was a small possibility that one kitten could have gotten in, but definitely not two.]
And a different gender, unless I'm very much mistaken. I only hope this isn't a recurring issue...

[He chuckles fondly.]
Well, it's not so bad. It could be worse.
[Though he's got a sinking feeling this is just the start of a very annoying, fuzzy, far-too-adorable pattern.]
Hmph. It always can be.

He looks rather happy as he is now.
[ video ]
[Implying that kittens are decidedly not independent animals.]
video;
He -- she? -- seems to have already laid a claim to you, though. If you truly intend not to keep him, be careful not to name him. Then you'll never be able to give him up.
[ Nope. No laughter here. Okay, maybe a chuckle. ]
