[ Natasha has to say something. She can’t just stay silent. But what to say? That this all has a really unpleasant ring of nostalgia to it? That she’s read the SHIELD file on Asgard before and either their intel was completely off base, or this entire place was not what it was claiming to be? No. She couldn’t alienate an entire group of people right off, not when it seemed like they earnestly believed what they were being told. She’d been watching them for a few hours now, silently observing – learning. She’s even taught herself how to use her bracelet, reading back on the last few days and fiddling around with her settings.

I’m not sure .. if I’m doing this correctly. My name is Natalie Rushman. I was on Earth and then now.. I’m here and that strange woman is telling me that I’m in some sort of house and I was given a bracelet…

[ She’s the very picture of a confused, out of place woman, if a little bit more collected than most. There isn’t any crying, hysterics or babbling going on over here. ‘Natalie’ is a little pale, but that could be chalked up to the lighting. In fact, it almost looks like she’s standing in front of a window, with the sun behind her, obscuring parts of her face – it makes it hard to make out who exactly is speaking into the video. ]

Is there anyone .. who can try and explain to me what is really going on? Someone who has an actual face and has been here for a while?

[ he pauses, bringing a hand to his face just to check, before continuing. ]

Yeah... right! I do. What can I do to help? [ he supposes he's been here for a while now too, though he really doesn't explain the specifics of asgard all that well anyway. ]

[ that's .. kind of cute. yep. she's going to go with cute on this one! except, how old is this person? ]

The person .. without the face. She said that I had a 'patron God' .. but she didn't explain anything about what that meant.

Oh... right. Well, this place is ruled by a bunch of gods. I'm not sure how many there are now, because I think one or two might have died...

[ he should probably pay better attention to that kind of stuff, but oh well. ]

One of them looks after you while you're here! Or... at least, you live in their district. There's a big house where you're supposed to stay, with all the other people that have the same god looking after them.

.. Is there somewhere you can go to meet these 'gods'?

[ maybe if she finds them and incapacitates them, they'll take her home. not exactly very subtle, but hey. whatever works? she'll file that in the back of her mind under a last-resort plan. ]

Have you ever met the god who is supposed to be looking after you?

I don't think this. Maybe they live somewhere in their houses? I've never really looked for them.

I've never seen him around. Or is it a she? I guess her name is Hel, so maybe it's a she... It'd be kind of intimidating, meeting a god, wouldn't it? I think you can meet them though, if you want to. I'm just not sure how.

[ hey, don't be like that! Natasha just kind of has a goal in mind here - getting out of this place as soon as possible. even if she has to blackmail and coerce some gods to do it. ]

I think maybe gods are just like everybody else. [ or at least, thor is. ] They probably wouldn't want you to be scared of them, right? Unless you want people to be scared of you?

[ why is she doing this. this person must be a child, and she didn't need to console them (not that she was, but still). ]

I don't! [ he answers quickly enough, smiling a bit weakly as he nods. ] But you're right, that makes sense. I don't think they're really that different from the rest of us either.

[ definitely at least a bit different though. ]

But they brought us here against our will, and won't let us leave. We're... supposed to fight in a war for them. [ a shake of the head. ] I don't think that's very reasonable, but we don't have much choice.

[ yeah, they are a bit different. they're blonde and ridiculous, call everyone 'lady' or 'lord' (which blows up Stark's ego) and hog all the shampoo in Stark tower. i mean-- ]

It's hard to like them when they do something like that. I'm not exactly a fighter or anything. Back home .. I was just a student. [ or something. you know, student / master spy. same thing. ]

Are the powers real?

A student, huh? Same here. [ he's a bit surprised to hear she is too. he's not sure what it is about her, but she definitely carries herself with a... well, something he doesn't see often. ]

Oh, yeah, the powers are real. I have one too... I don't like using it much though. And they get stronger, as long as you do your best to help the gods.

Students .. seem to be getting younger, each year. [ it's because she's going back to school for her secondary degree. ~~clearly~~. the air of maturity. that must be it. ]

Do other people get .. useful powers? Or are they all useless?

Shouldn't it be the other way around? Students should get older, not younger. [ as usual, the point goes entirely over his head. ]

Oh... yeah, I think all the different powers have uses. It's just about... figuring out how to use them. Getting good at it.

[ yeah, she won't even bother .. replying to that, sorry. ]

Giving us a power and expecting us to learn how to use it.. on our own? That seems kind of stupid, doesn't it? Even students have to find somewhere to practice!

[ it's okay, that's the right response. ]

Oh... but there are some people who can help! They teach others how to use their powers better, I think. They're just other people who have been here longer, but if you want help with that... you should probably look for them.

I guess I should, if I'm really fighting in a war here. The people who've been here longer .. How long have they been here? Maybe .. a few months?

[ there is just a faint amount of hope in her voice, feigned. ]

Um... yeah, some of them! Some have been here even longer though. I'm not sure how long the longest have been here... but it's definitely been a while.

[ more than a few months at any rate. ]

It's not years though, right? I won't be stuck here for years?

I don't think so! I don't think anyone's been here that long, anyway... but, um, more like months. So maybe three or four? If you're lucky.

[ he isn't entirely sure, but he's been around for about two himself... ]
